Little Owls Nursery has successfully raised £1,200 to fund a brand-new community defibrillator – thanks to the incredible generosity of families, staff and supporters.
The fundraising campaign was led by Nursery Manager Lisa, who set up a GoFundMe page and organised a dedicated fundraising day featuring a cake sale, tombola and raffle. The team were overwhelmed by the response from families, with donations and baked goods pouring in to support the cause.
One Little Owls family made an especially generous donation of £900, helping the nursery reach its goal in just one month.
Lisa explained the motivation behind the campaign:
“We wanted to increase our ability to safeguard and protect our children, staff, families and everyone who comes into the setting. Having a defibrillator increases the chance of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest. Hopefully it will never need to be used, but it’s reassuring to know it will be there.”
The defibrillator will be installed outside the nursery gates, making it accessible not only to those within the setting but also to the wider local community.
Lisa added:
“I am so grateful for the support from all of our families who donated, attended our fundraising event, baked cakes and brought in prizes for the raffle and tombola. We couldn’t have raised the funds so quickly without everyone’s help – especially the family who made such an incredible donation because they believe defibrillators should be available in all schools and educational settings.”
Once installation is complete, Little Owls plans to celebrate with an unveiling event, inviting families and local press to mark the occasion and recognise the collective effort that made it possible.
The new defibrillator has been funded in partnership with The OurJay Foundation, a charity dedicated to increasing the number of publicly accessible defibrillators across the UK.
Lisa concluded:
“I feel so proud of everyone who was involved in this campaign. Thanks to the generosity and kindness of our families, we’re now able to increase the safeguarding and protection of everyone who enters our nursery – and the local community too.”
From all of us at Little Owls – thank you to every family and supporter who helped make this happen.
